CrossFit MF

The story

Maine's premier CrossFit affiliate since 2009

CrossFit MF began in 2009 like many early affiliates: in the garage with some friends. The Home of the Misfits moved into a more appropriately sized space in Portland not long after, and in 2016 we relocated to our current home on Riverside Street and have been there ever since. We have proudly been a licensed CrossFit affiliate since inception, and we believe in the efficacy of CrossFit so wholeheartedly that every Coach and Owner at MF trains shoulder to shoulder with you, in class.

Why we're here

The mission

The mission of CrossFit MF is to enable our members to live long, healthy, physically independent lives. We do this by building real-world capacity and resilience, fueling our bodies with intention, and training shoulder to shoulder in a community that rejects shortcuts and embraces incremental progress.

Do it right. Do it well. Then do it again.

Core values

What we're about

Three values, one gym. They're on the wall because we mean them.
  • Good Vibes

The Misfits are a cool bunch of humans, and it's because the vibe is always high. Leave the gym happier than when you walked in.

  • Better Today

The journey is the destination. Find a small win today, then find another one tomorrow. Consistent, tedious, incremental progress is the way.

  • Our corest of core values

    Strength in Numbers

Some days you need the community, and some days the community needs you. It's a give and take, but we're always stronger together.

What an hour here looks like

Every class runs one hour and follows the same rhythm, so you always know what you're walking into:
  1. Whiteboard

The Coach welcomes the group, makes any relevant community announcements, then briefs the upcoming workout and how to modify it for any ability level.

  2. Warm-up

We start with a general warm up to wake up muscles, joints, and nervous systems. Then coaches take you through a specific warm up where the coach breaks movements down into digestible parts and ensures you're moving safely.

  3. The WOD

Some days we hammer a tough conditioning piece, sometimes we lift, and some days we do both. This is what you come to class for.

  4. Cool-down & celebration

Scores on the whiteboard and fist bumps all around. The community part isn't optional.

Our facility

What's in the building

Home base is 1077 Riverside Street in Portland, ME. Here's what you'll find once you're through the door.

1 of 6: The lobby

  • The main floor

An open floor built for barbells, rigs, and room to move. While a class is running it belongs to that class; outside those blocks it's yours for open gym.

  • Three showers

Because plenty of you go straight to work from the morning classes. On busy mornings one bathroom goes toilet-only to keep the queue moving.

  • The lobby store

Water bottles, shirts, and the rest. It runs on the honor system: take what you need, scan the QR code or use the store in the StreamFit app, settle up.

Photos still needed: the showers, the retail and front desk space, and an updated lobby once the rig is in

You don't need to be in shape to start. That's what we're for.
