Good questions

New member FAQ

First: taking one hour a day to prioritize yourself is one of the least selfish things you can do, for you and for the people who count on you. Here's everything new members usually want to know, plus the logistics for visiting athletes who want to drop in. If your question isn't here, that's what the contact form is for.

Classes

I finished my free classes. How do I get started?

Open the StreamFit app, pick a class time, and sign up. That's it. The app is also where you track workouts and catch announcements in the gym's chat channels. If you can't make a class you're signed up for, remove yourself promptly so someone on the waitlist can claim the spot.

When should I arrive?

At least 5 minutes early: enough time to change, read the whiteboard, and get in an optional bike or mobility warm-up. Be present for the coach's brief; that's where the workout gets explained.

What if I'm running late?

Being on time is the standard. Less than 10 minutes late, join the warm-up. More than 10 minutes late, a coach will set you up with a modified workout, or catch the next class.

What happens if a class is full?

Classes are capped based on the workout, the equipment, and the space, so everyone gets a real coaching experience. Join the waitlist in StreamFit and watch your app notifications and email: when a spot opens you have a limited window to accept or decline it. Only athletes officially registered for a class can train in it, so confirm your spot if one opens up.

Is there a charge for cancelling a reservation or no-showing?

No. For the busy 5:00 and 6:15 AM classes, please cancel by 9 PM the night before if there's a waitlist (there usually is). No-show or late-cancel on a waitlisted class and you may get a friendly reminder email from us. Classes without a waitlist can be cancelled any time, but do it as soon as you know so the coach can plan.

What should I bring?

Clean workout attire you're comfortable sweating in, flat or low-drop training shoes (running shoes are the pick for longer running days), and water; there's a cooler for refills and bottles for sale in the lobby if you forget. You'll see members with jump ropes, lifting shoes, grips, belts, and knee sleeves. None of it is required, and you'll get plenty fit in sneakers and shorts. If you do invest in one thing, make it your own jump rope.

Can I wear headphones?

Not in class. Community is a big part of what makes this place special, and your coach needs to be able to communicate with you. Headphones are totally fine during open gym and in the Cardio Theater.

Membership & Facility

What if I need to pause or cancel my membership?

The hold and cancellation forms, plus the full membership policies, are linked at the bottom of every page on this site. Heads up so there are no surprises: cancellation requires 14 days' written notice via the online form, and holds must be requested at least 5 business days before your next invoice.

Can I come in outside of class times?

Absolutely. Members can put in extra training between classes or during the midday open gym block. If a class is running, the main floor is reserved for it (unless a coach makes an exception), but the Cardio Theater upstairs is always fair game.

What's in the facility?

Three showers (during busy mornings one bathroom goes toilet-only to keep things moving), a Cardio Theater upstairs, and open-gym access. Please take your belongings with you when you leave.

Do you offer personal training?

Yes. Email info@misfitgymportland.com to schedule a session or talk through your goals.

Nutrition

What should I eat before and after a workout?

Before class: something light and easy to digest, like a banana, coffee, or a protein shake with some carbs, ideally at least an hour out. Skip high-fat food right before training. After class: prioritize protein. A shake or meal with at least 30 grams of complete protein supports recovery and muscle growth.

Do you offer nutrition coaching?

Yes: caloric needs, macros, food tracking, and at least one nutrition challenge per year with extra support from the coaches and the community. Nutrition is the foundation of your physical and metabolic health; we treat it that way.

Dropping In

I'm visiting Portland. Can I drop in?

Please do, and your first class is free if you're an experienced CrossFitter. Send us a message at least 24 hours before the class you want, so the coach knows you're coming and we can get you set up. We're at 1077 Riverside Street, Portland, and classes run from 5:00 AM on weekdays plus Saturday and Sunday mornings. Bring flat or low-drop training shoes, water, and clean workout attire; everything else is here.

What if I'm in town for more than one class?

Drop-in options cover a single class, or unlimited classes for 7 days from purchase, which is the one to take if Portland has you for the week. Reach out and we'll sort the details.

I'm new to CrossFit and visiting. Can I still come in?

The free drop-in is meant for experienced CrossFitters, the ones who can be handed a barbell and a whiteboard cold. If you're new to this, the free Saturday community class is the easiest way in and it's open to everyone. Say so in your message and we'll point you at the right class.

Miscellaneous

How do I buy something from the lobby, like a water bottle or shirt?

Everything in the lobby goes through the store in the StreamFit app or one of the QR codes. Please complete the purchase when you take the item. It's an honor system, and keeping it honest keeps the cool stuff coming.

How fast will I see results?

Honest answer: come 4+ times a week and you'll notice a real difference within a month, and you'll plug into the culture of accountability that accelerates everything. Less than 3 days a week and meaningful change is unlikely, which is true of any training program. You're investing in yourself, so make it count.

What if I have an injury or something hurts?

If something hurts in class, stop right away and tell a coach. If you get injured outside the gym, email us if it's severe, or come to class early and talk it through so the coach can make a plan. We work with injuries all the time and can keep you training while you heal.

What if I have other questions?

A coach on the floor can always help or point you to someone who can. Otherwise, info@misfitgymportland.com or a DM in the StreamFit app will get you a pretty quick response.
