Scaling isn't cheating

By Hunter Wood, Owner & Head Coach

A masters-age Misfit member training at the rig, working her own scaled version

Every workout at MF can be scaled: the load, the movements, the volume, the time. New members sometimes treat that like a consolation prize. It isn't. Scaling is your ticket to endless progress, and it's how we can train elite athletes and grandmas in the same class at the same time.

The doctrine behind it

We apply a rigid order to everything you learn here: mechanics first, then consistency, and only then intensity. Mechanics means doing the movement correctly and safely. Consistency means excellent mechanics performed over and over; we need your 100th rep to look as good as your 1st. Intensity comes last, once the first two are earned, because intensity is what drives results and it's only safe on top of a foundation.

Scaling is how that doctrine meets you where you are today. The athlete next to you lifting twice your weight? A decade ago their scaled version looked like yours. Decade-long members still scale when the day calls for it.

Injuries and bad days count too

Tweaked shoulder, cranky knee, terrible night of sleep: tell a coach and we'll modify the workout. We accommodate injuries routinely. The goal is never to survive one heroic workout; it's to still be training here in twenty years.
